‘Shivanjani Lal: Beta, ek story bathao’ at UNSW Galleries

Shivanjani Lal is a twice-removed Fijian Indian Australian artist who works with photography, video, performance and ritual who recently received the 2019 NSW Visual Arts Fellowship (Emerging). Lal presents new works exploring the indentured labour diaspora of the Indian and Pacific Oceans and the histories that brought her family from India to Fiji and now to Australia.

Presented as part of ‘Wansolwara: one salt water’ at UNSW Galleries in partnership with 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, a series of exhibitions, performances and events featuring artists, writers and creatives connected by the Great Ocean. This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body.
